Check compatibility
You can upgrade to OS X El Capitan from OS X Snow Leopard or later on any of the following Mac models. Your Mac also needs at least 2GB of memory and 8.8GB of available storage space.
However, if the model Mac is too new to allow the installation for El Capitan, then message given below will occur when trying to create the Install OS X El Capitan application. This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer. I’m attempting to completely wipe our old IMac, then simply reinstall the OS it was previously running on, El Capitan. The instructions for doing so via restarting in recovery mode seemed straight forward, but ultimately fails after what seems like a lengthy red I install process (about 20 minutes) with “No packages were eligible for install.”. Nov 05, 2019 - Install an older version of Mac OS X, (if your machine can go up to el capitan, but if it doesnt install elCap, try installing Yosemite, etc.). El Capitan: No packages were eligible for. After a web search I looked into what it would take to update my OS and from what I read it sounded like my computer would be able to handle El Capitan, so I started the install. It seemed like it was working fine, but I just got a message saying that OS X could not be installed on my computer because 'no packages were eligible for install.' OS X El Capitan remains available for Mac computers that can't upgrade to macOS Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra or Sierra, or that need to upgrade to El Capitan first. Then double-click the file named Install OS X El Capitan. Click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
